ПРЕДИСЛОВИЕ 
 
Настоящее учебное пособие разработано в соответствии с рабочей 
программой дисциплины «Морской английский язык» по специальности 
26.05.05. Судовождение, а также в соответствии с разделом А-II/1 (уровень 
эксплуатации) Кодекса ПДНВ и с учетом содержания модельного курса 
ИМО 3.17 "Морской английский язык" (Model Course 3.17 Maritime English). 
Оно предназначено для курсантов и студентов старших курсов очной и заочной форм обучения. 
Пособие состоит из девяти тематических разделов, каждый из которых включает в себя текст, комплекс предтекстовых и послетекстовых 
упражнений, которые нацелены на: 
– формирование навыков работы с терминологическими словарями 
как англо-русскими, так и толковыми одноязычными; 
– развитие профессиональных лексических навыков; 
– формирование и развитие у курсантов и студентов активного и пассивного словарного запаса, необходимого в профессиональной деятельности. 
Учебное пособие можно использовать как для аудиторных занятий,

MY FUTURE PROFESSION 
 
Marine navigators work at sea on the ship's bridge and in the other part of 
the ship during the loading and discharging. They can work on different types of 
vessels, but all the time navigators are in charge of cargo, crew and safe sailing. 
Also, their duties are filing the papers for the provisions and supplies, keep contact 
with the company and the agent. A good navigator should be responsible, practical 
and friendly with the crew. 
For the first, marine navigators work as deck cadets. After working at sea 
for 12 months a seaman can apply for the Certificate of Competency which allows 
them to take charge of the watch officer. 
When I was younger, I always dreamt about travelling and discovering. 
And now the years have passed when I can finally say that my dream came true. 
Currently I’m the 5th year cadet of the BFFSA and soon I will get the diploma of an Officer of a Watch (OOW). I’m very glad choosing to be a navigator. 
My passion for travel is still alive and now glowing with new colors. Working at 
sea gives me opportunity to see and compare how other people live in different 
parts of our planet. But is that all there is to it? 
Also, this job is really fascinating. It involves such duties as working with 
Life Saving Appliances, Fire Fighting Equipment, being a radio officer, plotting 
passage plans, using plenty of navigational equipment and others. A wise man 
once said, "It’s not all about your job, it’s all about your lifestyle". And I fully 
agree with this statement.  
My main aspiration is to become a captain and to accomplish this goal I 
should really work hard and dedicate some time to learn something new in my 
professional field of activity. My family approves my choice and I hope I will 
make them proud.

ship but also of its crew. You have to navigate through different weather conditions, manage communication with other ships and ports, and make important decisions that affect everyone aboard. 
Tom: Wow, that sounds challenging. 
Captain Smith: It is. But it's also very rewarding. Being a captain means having 
a unique opportunity to travel around the world and see things most people only 
dream about. Plus, you get to work with an international team of professionals 
from various backgrounds and cultures. 


Tom: That does sound amazing. What advice would you give to someone who 
wants to become a captain? 
Captain Smith: My advice would be to start small and gain as much experience 
as possible. Learn everything you can about navigation, safety procedures, and 
teamwork. Also, don't underestimate the importance of developing good leadership skills and being able to communicate effectively with others.
