ПРЕДИСЛОВИЕ

Данное учебное пособие предназначено для начального этапа 
обучения английскому языку на факультетах иностранных языков 
педагогических университетов и институтов. Первая часть учебного 
пособия начинает серию учебных пособий, основная цель 
которых – обучение устной речи на основе развития автоматизированных 
речевых навыков. 
В пособии решается целый ряд задач, направленных на формирование 
коммуникативной, общеобразовательной и профессиональной 
компетенций. В процессе работы обучающиеся осваивают 
базовую лексику, выражения и фразеологические единицы 
по определенным темам, знакомятся с культурно-историческими 
реалиями и нормами этикета страны изучаемого языка, приобретают 
умение выстраивать стратегии устного общения в соответствии 
с социокультурными особенностями английского языка.
Часть 1 учебного пособия содержит подборку монологических 
и диалогических текстов, лексический и грамматический 
материал и систему упражнений по темам: 1. People Around You. 
2. Houses and Homes. 3. Countries and Nationalities. 4. Food. It’s to 
my Liking.
Каждый урок имеет определенную структуру:

В начале каждого урока даны речевые модели, которые сопровождаются 
упражнениями, направленными на тренировку речевых 
образцов. Перед текстами помещены таблицы с грамматическим 
материалом и грамматические упражнения, построенные

на лексическом материале предыдущих уроков и имеющие целью 
повторить и закрепить грамматический материал, встречающийся 
в текстах. 
После текстов предлагаются лексические комментарии 
и упражнения, способствующие развитию навыков устной речи 
на основе овладения лексическими и грамматическими явлениями 
текстов.
Каждый урок содержит тематический словарь и систему 
упражнений, которые позволяют обучающимся использовать изучаемые 
языковые средства для достижения коммуникативных целей 
в конкретных ситуациях общения на английском языке.
Задания по аудированию направлены на развитие навыков 
восприятия оригинальной устной речи и последующего использования 
речевых образцов в коммуникации.
Раздел, посвященный речевой практике, содержит задания 
и вопросы для организации бесед и дискуссий на изучаемую тему.
Кроме этого, каждый урок содержит профессионально ориентированные 
задания, предусматривающие выработку профессионально 
значимых умений при обучении речевому общению будущих 
педагогов.
Последовательность изучения материала и объем предлагаемых 
упражнений позволяет преподавателю варьировать виды работы 
в зависимости от степени подготовленности студентов и количества 
аудиторных часов.
Учебное пособие основано на методических принципах обучения 
английскому языку, которые разрабатывались теоретически 
и отражались в практике преподавания в Московском педагогическом 
государственном университете под руководством профессора 
В.Д. Аракина.

SPEECH PATTERNS

Speech Pattern 1: Betty and I are best friends.
Mind the word order: mother and daughter, father and son, husband 
and wife, my friend and I, brother and sister, bread and butter.

Exercise 1. Fill in the gaps with suitable words from the list above:
1. It therefore gives me great pleasure to say you are now … 
and … . 2. Mrs. Gladwyn doesn’t think they were mother and … .

Speech Pattern 2: Let’s have a swim, the water looks so inviting!
to have a talk, a swim, a laugh, a look, etc.

Exercise 2. Translate into Russian:
1. I think my parents want to have a talk with me about my studies. 
2. I want to have a talk with Greta’s doctor. 3. I’d like to have a talk with 
this Mr. Bennett of yours. 4. This site has my personal gallery; you are 
welcome to have a look. 5. A fi re broke out in the neighbourhood, so I went 
to have a look. 6. Do you want me to have a look, see if everything’s in 
order? 7. It was a hot day, so we had a swim before lunch. 8. Take a swim 
in the lake, you’ll feel refreshed. 9. I told him we went for a swim after our 
run. 10. Raise your head a bit and give me a smile, you’ll look beautiful in 
the photo. 11. Give me a smile and I’ll give you your money. 12. You can 
give him a smile, say Hello or do something to make him happy. 13. My

Speech Pattern 3: Let’s dance, shall we? Give me a smile, will you?

Exercise 3. Complete the sentences with “shall we” or “will you”. 
Translate them into Russian.
1. Let’s go for a walk, …? 2. Let’s go and see our grandma on 
Sunday, …? 3. It’s my birthday today, so give me a smile, …! 4. “Give 
me a break, …” – my mum said when I asked her to take me to the park.

Speech Pattern 4: That’s a pity! What a pity!

Exercise 4. Complete the sentences with “That” or “What”. Translate 
them into Russian:
1. We aren’t going anywhere. – Well, … is a pity! 2. … is a pity you 
aren’t going to invite Bernard this weekend. I wanted to have a talk with 
him. 3. … a pity her manners don’t match her looks. 4. … a pity you have

Speech Pattern 5: There are no boys or girls in the family for Benny

Exercise 5. Use the infi nitive as attribute (take the infi nitives from the 
following list):
