Целью учебного пособия является проработка английских словообра
зовательных моделей аффиксального типа с идентификацией суффиксальных моделей по частям речи. Даны упражнения, способствующие 
развитию словарного запаса, необходимого для формирования навыков 
письменной и устной речи на английском языке, а также для совершенствования навыков просмотрового и изучающего чтения как общих, так 
и профессионально ориентированных текстов.

Практикум предназначен для студентов 1-го и 2-го курсов, изучающих 

дисциплину «Иностранный язык» (направление подготовки бакалавров

The purpose of the study guide is to train English word-building models of 
the afftixal type with the identification of suffixal models by parts of speech. 
These exercises contribute to the development of the vocabulary necessary for 
the improving written and oral speech skills in English, as well as for the skills of 
viewing and comprehensive reading of both general and professionally oriented 
texts.
The tutorial on the word-building models of contemporary English for the 
1st and 2nd year students on the discipline “Foreign Language” (bachelor’s

Предисловие

Учебное пособие «Практикум по изучению словообразовательных моделей современного английского языка» предназначено для студентов 1-го и 2-го курсов факультета «Международных экономических отношений» и может быть использовано как для аудиторной работы с преподавателем, так 
и для самостоятельной работы студентов.
В работе представлены упражнения на продуктивные аффиксальные способы английского словообразования — суффиксацию и префиксацию. Все упражнения на суффиксы 
распределены по частям речи, а в упражнениях на префиксы 
акцент делается на значение префиксов.
Структура пособия предполагает последовательную работу, 
так как предыдущие задания являются основой и моделью 
для выполнения последующих заданий. На каждую словообразовательную модель представлены упражнения, состоящие 
из взаимосвязанных заданий, расположенных по степени нарастания трудности. В упражнениях на словообразовательные 
модели существительных суффиксы сгруппированы по их 
функциям, тогда как словообразовательные модели других 
частей речи представлены в алфавитном порядке суффиксов 
из-за большого разнообразия их функций.
В качестве источника учебной информации в пособии 
представлена структурированная справочная таблица по всем 
словообразовательным моделям. Для удобства aффиксы 
в таблице распределенным по алфавитному принципу. Справочная таблица является информационной базой, с помощью 
которой студенты могут самостоятельно выполнять задания 
упражнений, включающие анализ, классификацию и перевод 
изучаемых моделей словообразования современного английского языка. Лингвистическая универсальность представленного учебного материала позволяет использовать данное пособие для широкого круга других специальностей.

Introduction

The tutorial “Study Guide for Word-Building Models of 
Contemporary English” is designed for the 1st and 2nd year 
students of the Faculty of International Economic Relations 
and can be used both for classroom work with a teacher and for 
independent work of students.
The tutorial presents exercises on productive affixal methods 
of English word formation, i.e. suffixation and prefixation. All 
exercises for suffixes are organized according to parts of speech 
classification, while in exercises for prefixes, the emphasis is 
concentrated on the meaning of prefixes.
The structure of the study guide assumes consistent work, since 
the previous tasks are the basis and model for the implementation 
of subsequent tasks. Every word-building model is to be trained 
through exercises, consisting of interrelated tasks, arranged 
according to increasing difficulty. The exercises for noun-building 
suffixes are grouped according to the functions of these suffixes 
whereas the exercises for other parts of speech are presented 
alphabetically due to the great variety of their functions.
The tutorial presents a structured reference table for all 
the word-building models as a source of study materials. For 
convenience the affixes are arranged there in alphabetical order. 
The reference table is the information base, with the help of which 
students can independently complete the tasks of the exercises, 
including the analysis, classification and translation of the wordbuilding models of modern English. The linguistic versatility of 
the presented educational material allows to use this tutorial for a 
wide range of other specialties.
